Robots can make jobs less meaningful for human colleagues

A study conducted by the Brookings Institute found that the adoption of robots in the workplace can negatively impact workers' sense of meaningfulness and autonomy in their jobs. The think tank examined surveys from various industries across Europe and observed that if robot adoption increased in the food and beverage sector to match that of the automotive industry, there would be a decrease of 6.8% in work meaningfulness and a decrease of 7.5% in autonomy. The study also revealed that these negative consequences were consistent across different education levels and job roles. However, the answer to addressing this issue lies in finding ways for humans and robots to cooperate rather than compete for tasks.
