Ride-hailing app Rapido has secured $200 million in its Series E funding round, led by WestBridge Capital. The round also saw participation from Think Investments, Nexus Venture Partners, and Invus Group. While WestBridge alone invested $120 million, the remaining capital came from the other three investors. With this, the Bengaluru-based firm has reached a valuation of $1.1 billion. Entrackr had decoded the investment by WestBride in Rapido last month. The funds will be utilised to expand four-wheeler ride hailing services, as per the company. It launched cab services in December 2023. This will also boost it to compete with giants like Ola and Uber in India. Rapido co-founder Aravind Sanka confirmed the development to Entrackr. As per Rapido’s internal documents reviewed by Entrackr, the firm left Ola behind and became the number two player after Uber in the overall ride-hailing space including bike, auto, and cabs. As of March 2024, Uber processed 19.3 lakh rides on a daily basis while Rapido did 16.5 lakh rides a day followed by Ola which did 13 lakh rides. Rapido claims that autorickshaws contribute 40% to its GMV, while bikes and cabs each contribute 30%. In terms of the number of rides, bike taxis alone account for more than 50%. As of last month, WestBridge was the largest external stakeholder with 32.88%, followed by Swiggy and Nexus Ventures, which own 12.32% and 8.19%, respectively. The shareholding pattern will vary after further investments from Think Investments, Nexus, and Invus Group. Rapido’s operating revenue surged 3X to Rs 443 crore during FY23. The steep growth in scale also caused a 54% spike in losses which stood at Rs 675 crore in FY23. The firm is yet to disclose FY24 numbers.

The board at Rapido has passed a special resolution to issue 47,743 Series E preference shares at an issue price of Rs 52,467 each to raise Rs 250 crore or $29.7 million, the company's regulatory filing accessed from the Registrar of Companies shows. Rapido was set to raise approximately $60 million in a mix of primary and secondary funding from Prosus, as exclusively reported by Entrackr in October 2024. The ride-hailing app is raising $200 million in its Series E round at a $1.1 billion valuation. The company has already received two tranches—$120 million and $29.7 million. Following this latest tranche, Prosus will hold around 2.9% of Rapido. Based on Entrackr’s estimates, Rapido is currently valued at approximately Rs 8,726 crore (just over $1 billion). Mobility firm Rapido is set to raise $50-60 million in a mix of primary and secondary capital from Prosus, according to three sources familiar with the deal. This tranche is part of its ongoing $200 million round. “Prosus will acquire a $60 million stake in Rapido. The terms of the deal have been finalized, and it will also enable partial exits for early backers,” said one of the sources, requesting anonymity. Rapido has already secured $120 million in its Series E funding round from WestBridge Capital, through investment vehicles including SETU AIF and Konark. Entrackr had exclusively decoded this tranche in August. “With Prosus’s $60 million, Rapido will conclude its Series E round,” said another source, who also wished to remain anonymous. Sources indicate that the company’s valuation will remain unchanged. According to estimates from startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, Rapido was valued at around $1.02 billion in the initial tranche of the Series E round, funded entirely by WestBridge. Queries sent to Rapido and Prosus didn’t elicit any immediate response. We will update the story in case they do. It’s worth noting that Prosus is the largest stakeholder in food delivery and quick commerce major Swiggy. Swiggy acquired over a 12% stake in Rapido after leading its $180 million funding round in November 2022. Prosus’s interest in Rapido comes at a time when Rapido has surpassed Ola and Uber to become the largest player in the overall ride-hailing space (covering bikes, autos, and cabs), according to Rapido’s internal documents reviewed by Entrackr. Rapido has yet to disclose its FY24 numbers, but the firm’s operating revenue tripled to Rs 443 crore in FY23. This steep growth in scale also led to a 54% increase in losses, reaching Rs 675 crore in FY23.

Vanguard values Ola at $1.25 Bn

US-based asset management company Vanguard has marked down Ola’s valuation to $1.25 billion, according to a SEC filing in the US. This represents more than an 80% drop from its peak valuation of $7.3 billion in 2021. In February 2024, Vanguard had valued the Bhavish Aggarwal-led company at less than $2 billion ($1.88 billion) for the first time. However, it later revalued the company at around $2 billion in November last year. This development comes as Ola continues its push toward a public listing, even as it loses ground in the ride-hailing space (cabs, autos, and bikes). Rapido has emerged as the market leader, followed by Uber, with Ola now relegated to third place. In August last year, CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced that Ola Cabs would be rebranded as Ola Consumer, consolidating its financial services, cloud kitchens, and electric logistics under one umbrella. Although Ola converted into a public entity in November 2024 and has been evaluating IPO options since November last year, it has yet to make concrete moves toward a listing. Analysts suggest that Ola is likely to delay its IPO plans by at least six months, citing unfavorable market conditions—especially in light of the declining market cap and share price of Ola Electric. During FY24, Ola’s operating revenue declined by 5.5% to Rs 2,012 crore, down from Rs 2,128 crore in FY23. However, the company narrowed its losses significantly to Rs 10 crore in FY24, compared to Rs 623 crore in the previous fiscal year. The Bengaluru-based firm also turned EBITDA profitable in FY24. Meanwhile, its rival Rapido reached unicorn status last year after raising $200 million at a valuation of $1.1 billion. The Swiggy-backed company also surpassed Ola in terms of combined daily rides across bike taxis, autos, and cabs in Q2 FY25. Despite losing market share, Ola’s ride-hailing business remained more than twice the size of Uber’s and 2.5 times that of Rapido in terms of revenue. In FY24, Ola’s ride-hailing income stood at Rs 1,761 crore, compared to Uber’s Rs 807 crore from its mobility operations. Rapido reported Rs 648 crore in revenue for the same period, while managing to cut its losses by 45% to Rs 371 crore. While this valuation downgrade may not have a direct financial impact on Ola, it could weigh on internal morale—especially as the company weighs its public market debut.

Mobility startup Rapido recently turned unicorn after raising $120 million in a Series E funding round from WestBridge Capital through its various investment vehicles including SETU AIF and Konark. While the firm didn’t announce the funding officially, Entrackr has sifted through its regulatory filings to decode every detail of the round which was entirely led by WestBridge —an uncommon deal in the ecosystem. The board at Rapido has passed a special resolution to issue 10 equity, 95,479 Series E, and 95,489 Series E1 compulsory convertible preferred shares at Rs 52,467 each to raise Rs 1,002 crore (approximately $120 million) from WestBridge Capital through its 3 investment vehicles including SETU AIF, Konark, and MMPL Trust. Notably, shares issued worth Rs 501 crore were fully paid-up shares while the other 50% is partly-paid up. This essentially means that Rapido will receive the partly paid amount (Rs 501 crore) in tranches. Rapido will use the proceeds for expansion and growth, as per filings. According to the startup data intelligence platform, TheKredible’s estimates, Rapido was valued at around Rs 8,517 crore (approximately $1.02 billion) in the series E round. With this investment, WestBridge remained the largest external stakeholder with 32.88%, followed by Swiggy and Nexus Ventures, which own 12.32% and 8.19%, respectively. See TheKredibe for the complete shareholding pattern. Rapido also claimed to have left Ola behind and became the number two player after Uber in the overall ride-hailing space (bike, auto, and cabs). As of March 2024, Uber processed 19.3 lakh rides on a daily basis while Rapido did 16.5 lakh rides a day followed by Ola which did 13 lakh rides, as per Rapido’s internal documents reviewed by Entrackr. While Rapido is yet to disclose FY24 numbers, the firm’s operating revenue surged 3X to Rs 443 crore during FY23. The steep growth in scale also caused a 54% spike in losses, which stood at Rs 675 crore in FY23.

Oyo has raised Rs 416.85 crore (approximately $50 million) from InCred Wealth and Investment. The funding is coming after a gap of almost three years for the Gurugram-based hospitality unicorn. The board at Oyo has passed a special resolution to issue 14,37,41,379 Series G CCPS at an issue price of Rs 29 each to raise Rs 416.85 crore or $50 million, its regulatory filing accessed from the Registrar of Companies (RoC) shows. Oyo will use these proceeds for growth, global expansion (including acquisitions), and enhanced business plans, according to the filings. As per TheKredible estimates, the company has been valued at around Rs 19,756 crore or $2.38 billion post-allotment. Importantly, the new investor will command a 2.11% stake in the company (post allotment). In August 2021, US-based tech giant Microsoft had invested $5 million in the Lightspeed-backed firm at a valuation of $9.6 billion. The latest capital has come at a valuation haircut of more than 70% from its peak. Recently, Oyo’s founder Ritesh Aggarwal said that the firm posted its maiden annual net profit of Rs 100 crore in FY24. The company didn’t disclose its revenue for the last fiscal. In FY23, its revenue from operations grew 14.3% to Rs 5,464 crore from Rs 4,871 crore in FY22. During the period, the firm cut down losses by 33.7% to Rs 1,287 crore. Recently, Oyo withdrew its draft papers (DRHP) for the second time in the wake of unfavorable conditions. The firm may refile the IPO papers after the conclusion of the ongoing round in which Oyo is likely to raise more capital. Oyo’s major investor SoftBank first reduced its valuation to $3.4 billion in 2022. However, the firm rejected the markdown then.
