Community management app MyGate has announced senior management changes as it elevated co-founder Abhishek Kumar, who was previously the chief operating officer, to the position of chief executive. Meanwhile, co-founder Vijay Arisetty, who previously served as the chief executive, has now taken the role of chairman of the board. According to the company, Arisetty will guide the team on the firm’s strategic direction and continue to mentor the leadership team. Co-founder and chief technology officer Shreyans Daga will now have an expanded role overseeing product, technology, and new business initiatives. Founded in 2016 by Kumar, Arisetty and Daga, the company had raised Rs 100 crore ($13 million) in a funding round co-led by Urban Company and Acko in 2022. Entrackr exclusively reported the development. Last month, the firm announced employees stock buyback program for more than 50 employees. The buyback came on the back of improved financial results for the Bengaluru-based company in the last and current fiscal year. Additionally, Rohit Jindal, who has been with the company since 2017, has been elevated to the role of chief business officer. MyGate recently claimed that its revenue crossed Rs 100 crore in FY23, a 35% increase from the previous fiscal. The company’s investors include Tencent, Tiger Global, and Xto10X, among others.

Aurm, an asset protection firm providing safe-deposit locker services, announced that it has appointed Vijay Arisetty as its founder and chief executive officer (CEO). Arisetty is the founder of community management app MyGate. Arisetty brings in a wealth of experience in the armed forces and expertise in residential security. He played a pivotal role in setting up Aurm, a company that partners with banks and real estate developers to provide safe-deposit lockers to customers. Bengaluru-based Aurm offers unique safe solution, which focuses on easy availability and access, high-end security, privacy, and even an insurance up to Rs 25 lakh. “.. I realized that 90% urban affluent Indians don’t have access to a locker. In addition, the existing infrastructure needs an upgrade to keep up with evolving methods of theft and armed robbery,” said Arisetty. Aurm’s other three co-founders include Ganesh Balakrishnan, Suraj HS, and Pratap Chandana. Arisetty, who previously served as the chief executive at MyGate, had taken the role of chairman of the board in April this year. The Tiger Global-backed firm elevated co-founder Abhishek Kumar to the position of CEO. Besides MyGate, Arisetty also founded two startups: Pyngcabs and Kitchens Food.

Edtech company Unacademy is undergoing several high-level appointments. In the latest development, Arooshi Singh has been promoted from Director of People Experience and Culture to Chief People Officer at the Bengaluru-based firm. “I’m thrilled to share that Arooshi Singh, who has been with us for over seven incredible years, is being promoted to Head of HR,” said Gaurav Munjal, CEO and co-founder of Unacademy, in a Slack message to employees on Monday, as reviewed by Entrackr. Singh will replace Sandhydeep Purri, who was appointed as Chief People Officer of the SoftBank-backed company in November 2023. Arooshi led multiple functions across HR functions at Unacademy. She joined the company as a junior staff member for employee wellness. This marks the third promotion announced by the Munjal-led company in 2024. In January, Jagnoor Singh was elevated to Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Unacademy Centres, and last month, Abhishek Pipara was promoted to Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the offline business. In the past year, Unacademy has also seen several senior leadership exits, including a co-founder. In August 2023, Chief Operating Officer Vivek Sinha resigned, followed by Group CFO Subramanian Ramachandran in October, and co-founder and CTO Hemesh Singh in June. Last month, Unacademy also disclosed its financial numbers for the fiscal year ending March 2024. While the company’s revenue remained flat for the said fiscal year with Rs 988 crore, it managed to reduce its losses by a whopping 62%.

Community management app MyGate has announced employees stock buyback program for more than 50 employees. The buyback has come on the back of improved financial results for the Bengaluru-based company in the last and current fiscal year. MyGate has announced the buyback plan of 20% of vested shares for employees who have completed four years at the firm. “We are in the strongest financial position that we have ever been and well capitalised to fuel our growth and new initiatives,” said Abhishek Kumar, co-founder of MyGate. MyGate grew without raising venture capital money for nearly four years. The firm’s operating revenue jumped 77.3% to Rs 71.10 crore in FY23 from Rs 40.1 crore in FY22. During the period, it managed to cut losses to the tune of 35%. The company primarily generates income through subscription revenue from resident welfare associations and from brands promoting themselves on the MyGate app. The firm also said that it achieved zero cash burn in November 2023. MyGate raised $56 million in a Series B round in October 2019. Later, it raised strategic money worth $12 million from home service marketplace Urban Company and insurance provider Acko in November 2022. Entrackr exclusively reported the development. While the number of ESOP buybacks saw a downward trend in 2023, the amount of buyback and payout created a new record in the last year. As per data compiled by TheKredible, the total EOSP buyback/payout/liquidity in 2023 stood at nearly $802 million. In 2021 and 2022, the buyback amount was recorded at $440 and $200 million respectively. Last month, edtech company Classplus announced ESOP buyback for more than 150 employees.
