iPhone's SOS satellite feature helped rescue a family of hikers lost in a freezing Oregon forest, says report

A family lost in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest used the Emergency SOS feature on their iPhone to call for help. The family, including two young children, had become stranded due to high altitude and bad weather conditions. Fortunately, the Emergency SOS via satellite feature, available on iPhone 14 and 15 models, allowed them to contact emergency responders even without cell signal. Despite difficult terrain and weather challenges, a search-and-rescue team was able to reach the family, who were cold and dehydrated but otherwise unharmed. The family and rescuers were eventually transported back to safety. This feature has been credited with saving lives in other instances as well.
