India to develop its own foundational models: MoS IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar

India's Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, announced that India is planning to develop its own foundational models for artificial intelligence (AI) in response to the rise of AI models like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini. These models will be India-centric, focusing on areas such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and governance. Chandrasekhar also emphasized the importance of data in AI projects and mentioned that non-personal data collection platforms will be made available for Indian startups and companies. The government has allocated Rs 2,000 crore for startup financing in AI.
