India proposes 24x7 global communication link to curb cybercrimes

India has proposed the establishment of a 24/7 global communication channel to combat phishing attacks, as part of its submission to a draft treaty on cybercrime. India highlighted phishing as the predominant cybercrime globally and emphasized that current measures to deal with it are inadequate. The proposed network would allow prompt sharing of identified phishing links, URLs, and websites among countries, enhancing the ability to take appropriate action. However, this proposal may raise concerns surrounding data sharing with other countries and the potential for over-broad requests. The draft treaty also includes provisions for the preservation of electronic data and the authority to seize such data.
