Google strikes back at OpenAI with “Project Astra” AI agent prototype

OpenAI recently introduced GPT-4o, an AI model that can understand and converse about video feeds. Now, Google has unveiled Project Astra, a research prototype with similar video comprehension capabilities. During a demonstration at the Google I/O conference, Astra showcased its ability to identify objects, provide creative responses, explain code, and locate misplaced items. Google envisions Astra being used in wearable devices like smart glasses to analyze diagrams, suggest improvements, and respond to visual prompts. While Project Astra is still in early stages, Google has indicated that some of its features may be integrated into products later this year. In addition, Google announced new AI models and creative tools for generating images, audio, and video.
