Google confirmed it 'terminated' an employee who staged a protest against Israel at a tech event

A Google engineer who protested against a talk by the head of Google Israel has been fired. The employee disrupted a presentation by Barak Regev, Google Israel's managing director, expressing refusal to build technology that supports genocide, apartheid, or surveillance. The protest was against Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion cloud-computing contract with Israel's government. More than 100 Google workers had previously protested the project in 2022. The incident follows the recent layoff of YouTube's entire music team. Google's parent company, Alphabet, is also facing calls for CEO Sundar Pichai's resignation due to recent failures in AI innovation and a $2.3 billion lawsuit.
