Flipboard deepens its ties to the open source social web (aka the fediverse)

Flipboard, a social magazine app, is expanding its integrations with the fediverse, a network of interconnected servers that includes apps like Mastodon and Pixelfed. The company is adding fediverse notifications to its app, allowing users to see new followers and activity around their shared content. This follows Flipboard's move last year to integrate Mastodon and support the ActivityPub protocol. Additionally, Flipboard is federating its platform, making curated content viewable and enabling two-way communication for users to engage with fediverse communities. The expansion includes 400 more Flipboard magazines, bringing the total to over 11,000 available to federated social networking users.
