Firm behind software used by AMD, Nvidia to make GPU and CPUs quietly unveils its own supercomputer — as it appears to emulate Apple by bringing hardware and software closer together

Cadence Design Systems, known for its software used by AMD and Nvidia, has entered the supercomputer market with its own M1 supercomputer. The M1 is part of Cadence's Millennium Enterprise Multiphysics Platform, aimed at running computational fluid dynamics (CFD) at large scale and high speed. The M1 combines CPU hosts with GPU accelerators and features GPU-resident solvers for improved accuracy and speed in CFD simulations. While specifics about the compute engines and interconnects aren't disclosed, Cadence is reported to have chosen Intel Xeon SP and AMD Epyc server processors along with Nvidia and AMD accelerators for the Millennium system.
