EU's Digital Markets Act hands boost to Big Tech's smaller rivals

The European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA) is set to level the playing field for smaller tech rivals and promote competition against giants like Google, Amazon, Apple, TikTok, Meta, and Microsoft. The legislation requires these companies to make it easier for consumers to select services from various providers, benefiting small European businesses with increased visibility and options. For example, Meta will have to enable interoperability between its messaging platforms and eligible rivals like Signal and Telegram. Similarly, Google Android users will have the choice of selecting alternative search engines. However, Apple may face significant challenges as the DMA forces it to open up its App Store to external software developers, potentially impacting its profits and intensifying its dispute with Epic Games.
