Electrification could overwhelm energy grids. Startups are betting on AI to make sure that doesn't happen

The aging grids in the US and Europe face challenges with the increasing electrification of cars, stoves, and heating systems. Outdated infrastructure can lead to blackouts and vulnerability to cyberattacks. To meet climate goals, renewable energy capacity needs to expand, but connecting to the grid is costly and time-consuming. Investors are optimistic about using AI and smart meters to optimize the existing infrastructure and balance energy consumption. Startups are leveraging AI to monitor grids, predict faults, and increase grid resilience. However, challenges with slow utility companies and bureaucratic processes hinder the rapid scaling of these solutions.
