CXO pay in India inches close to that of US peers

The pay gap between CXOs in India and the US is narrowing as multinationals and global capability centres (GCCs) offer generous salaries, bonuses, and stock options. While US CXOs saw a 15% increase in salaries between 2020 and 2024, Indian counterparts experienced a nearly 40% rise. Adjusting for factors like purchasing power parity, the difference in remuneration has decreased. Large companies are outsourcing functions to India, leading to shared responsibilities and higher salaries for Indian executives. The transformation of Indian GCCs from cost centres to revenue centres has also contributed to the narrowing gap. However, the compensation difference still exists, with US executives earning more on average.
