A Sao Paulo court has ordered Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to stop using its name in Brazil within 30 days due to a lawsuit filed by a local computer services provider with the same name. The provider claims that it has suffered damage from third parties confusing the two companies. Meta, which owns Instagram and WhatsApp, has not yet responded to the order. The decision can be appealed, and if Meta fails to comply, it will have to pay a fine of 100,000 reais per day. The company changed its name to Meta in 2021 to focus on building the metaverse.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has won an appeal that allows it to continue using its name in Brazil. Previously, a court had ruled in favor of a Brazilian computer services provider, arguing that it owned the rights to the name and had been wrongly involved in numerous lawsuits due to confusion caused by Meta's branding. Meta believes it should follow the law regardless of business decisions made by others. Despite the appeal win, the Brazilian Meta can still challenge the decision. The rebranded company, focused on building the metaverse, changed its name from Facebook in 2021.
