Consumers see GenAI in smartphones as gimmick, potentially hurting sales

- Brands' push for AI features in smartphones is being perceived as gimmicky and lacking substantial value by consumers. - Samsung's sales in India, after introducing AI features in its smartphones, were 16% lower in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year, according to IDC India. - Apple's iPhone sales growth in India has primarily been driven by financing offers and discounts, not AI features. - Consumer interest in generative AI remains low as it is currently seen more as a technology than a product. - Brands are working on tighter integration of AI features into smartphones, particularly in voice interfaces, to showcase the real value addition. - Subscription plans for AI features are likely to be introduced by smartphone brands as a revenue model, especially as running the technology on the cloud can be costly.

I totally agree with this! As a consumer, just ChatGPT is enough. Also Samsung is Probobly planning to charge extra for using these ai features which tbh is ridiculous.. You're firstly advertising that the phone is loaded with these ai features and forces us to buy it and later charges extra for them. Also i didn't found any of those features to be useful. So yeah, they'll have to do something great soon.
