Apple's recent movies, including "Napoleon," "Killers of the Flower Moon," and "Argylle," have not performed well at the box office, generating only $466 million while costing over $700 million to create. However, an Apple source claims that "Killers of the Flower Moon" and "Napoleon" are profitable due to ancillary revenue streams. The movies are primarily designed for Apple TV+, so revenue streams such as video-on-demand sales might help close the gap. Apple's motivation for making movies and TV shows is to provide content for Apple TV+ and boost its services revenue as iPhone sales decline. Despite the financial outcome, the company can allocate the cost as marketing if desired.
