I can see that many people are directly thinking about building a billion dollar unicorn startup and investing their money and time in it, but I believe that if I lack money and experience, then I should first work in someone else's startup or build a small business so that I can get the money, experience and some confidence to build something big.

correct, when we think directly to build something big (without any small steps) then we also have lots of expectations. and this type of expectations always hurt

I don't think there is any one right path whatever suits you the best in your situation you should go with that one. There are successful founders who are first time founders only. And if money is your concern nowadays people are ready to invest if you have a good idea with a proper working model depends on many factors
