Left Microsoft and built a 72,000 CR company. 1. When most kids were playing with toys, Peyush Bansal worked at a call centre, handling thousands of consumer complaints every day in the retail sector. Seeing his progress, the very senior person who taught him coding offered him the dream job. In 2007, Peyush became a program manager at Microsoft. ๐Ÿ’ผ 2. But still, something troubled him. He wanted to build something of his own. In 2007, he left Microsoft and came to India to start, SearchMyCampus, to solve everything from accommodation to internships. He thought he had it, but did not. ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป 3 While he got over 15,000 registered students with SeachMyCampus, the model lacked scalability. After two years of grind, he had to shut. He was down but started searching for new ideas. In 2009, e-commerce started in India, and he noticed something. ๐Ÿค” 4. While Flipkart was solving for books and electronics, no one solved for eyewear. India had over 500 million people needing vision correction, but 180 million used spectacles. The eyewear market was dominated by unorganised opticians who charged 300-1200% markup, and offered inconsistent service. He wanted to solve.๐Ÿ™Œ 5. He wanted to build eyewear as a necessity and not a fashion accessory. In December 2010, he incorporated Valyoo Technologies with two friends (Amit and Sumeet) and sourced 700 frames from Delhi and China. Lenskart was born. ๐Ÿš€ 6. Peyush started, but 20% customers returned products due to incorrect prescriptions or poor fit. Logistics failures, breakage during transport, and supplier inconsistencies added more pressure. He also focused on other niche categories, like WatchKart, JewelsKart, and BagsKart. He had to find an answer. ๐Ÿค” 7. Within one year, Peyush shut down all other categories and focused on Lenskart. He called hundreds of customers himself and launched the Free Home Eye Check-Up in 2013. That year, he conducted over 10,000 home visits with 1000 orders daily, and 100 CR in revenue by 2013. ๐Ÿ“ˆ 8. To beat Titan Eye+, he went Omnichannel and doubled down on technological superiority with the 3D Try-On feature and delivery within 48 hours. By 2017, Lenskart was producing over 30,000 lenses daily and had crossed 460 CR in revenue by 2018. It had more stores than Titan Eye+ now. โœ… 9. By 2019, the big news came. SoftBank Vision Fund invested $275 million, propelling Lenskart into the unicorn club with a valuation of $1.5 billion. ๐Ÿฆ„ 10. By 2024, it had over 2200 stores, with 50% stores profitable in just 7 months and crossed a mammoth revenue of 5428 CR. But the big news came in 2025. ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป 11. On 4th November, Lenskartโ€™s 7,278.02 CR IPO was oversubscribed by 28.26 times, and when it listed on 10th November, it became a 72000 CR company. ๐Ÿ’ช After grinding for over 12 years, Peyush Bansal had just become a billionaire. ๐Ÿ™Œ โžก๏ธ But the best part - Lenskart Foundation and Peyush provide 10 million free eye checkups every year. ๐Ÿ™
